Breakfast Nook Interior Design Ideas

A modern breakfast nook with a vintage old-world feel. This breakfast-nook interior design project had three things going for it. Light floors, good light, and a push-up window. I wanted to brighten the space by keeping the walls white and introducing natural and textured elements for that added contrast. Instead of having the area too sterile, I opted for wainscoting, painted in a recommended old English green, just a little more than half the height of the wall. The wainscoting wraps around the main kitchen area but provides a “hugging” effect for the breakfast nook. With the green wainscoting, the black-framed window became the perfect backdrop to place behind the light and natural wood furniture, tying in the black-framed window with the large round black dining table.

To keep things less traditional, I opted for a very modern ceiling light, mimicking the round shape of the table and the linen texture of the banquette seating. Behind the bench seating is a singular oversized art piece with a simplistic and minimalistic line drawing, toning down the hardness of the space.
